Javascript
JavaScript tutorial - DOM nodes and tree

Of course, the tree also extends above the 'P' from window.document, through the HTML element, down through the body element, then through any other container elements to the paragraph.

The parts of the DOM tree are known as nodes. The 'P', 'B' and 'BR' nodes are element nodes, childNodes and attributes are collections, the title='The test paragraph' pair is an attribute node, and the text strings are text nodes.

Some important things to know about Facebook

I recently built a facebook widget out of one of our applications and I had a hard time getting started. Suffice it to say that Facebook's documentation is pretty limited for total newbies.

If you're new to facebook, you'll find the "getting started!" documentation more than frustrating: it's disingenuous. It promises an easy start-up - just read a tutorial, check out an example, and you're on your way! If only it were so easy.

MySQL LEFT JOIN Explanation

How is a LEFT JOIN different from a normal join? First of all, the syntax is quite different and somewhat more complex. Besides looking different, the LEFT JOIN gives extra consideration to the table that is on the left.

Being "on the left" simply refers to the table that appears before the LEFT JOIN in our SQL statement. Nothing tricky about that. This extra consideration to the left table can be thought of as special kind of preservation. Each item in the left table will show up in a MySQL result, even if there isn't a match with the other table that it is being joined to.
